After blasting through Halo 3's frenetic 6-hour campaign, it seems that the war between the humans and the Covenant has been tempered at least for a while; Master Chief has saved the Earth and stopped the aliens dead in their tracks, something that should call for a jubilant celebration, except of course that the Covenant's genocide over the period of the war has amounted to a whopping 23 billion. Thus, most of the people who would be keen to celebrate are nothing but piles of ash. Though Halo 4 proved a little more optimistic, Halo 3's ending left us on tenterhooks for five years, wondering what would become of the human race and whether they would ever be able to recover. Does it really get much more depressing than that?
