Perhaps the most famous Grand Theft Auto myth that a tonne of dedicated players were absolutely dead set on cracking is finding Bigfoot.

Yes, that Bigfoot, the same one who has featured in many a blurry photo in real life. It was believed that the IRL myth was programmed into San Andreas by Rockstar and the oversized primate could be spotted travelling between Back O’ Beyond, Shady Cabin, or Mount Chiliad by lucky players. This is supposedly the first major myth the series had seen, before that it was all easter eggs and content that didn’t make it into the game.

Plenty of screenshots and videos began to surface as the myth almost began to outshine the game itself.

There was some discussion over whether Bigfoot previously existed in the world or never appeared at all, but for those desperate for an appearance a slew of modders were more than happy to deliver. In an official interview with Rockstar co-founder Terry Donovan in 2005 he said, "There is no Bigfoot, just like in real life.".

Some players still took this as a hint that they should keep looking and you know what, power to you. You got him in GTA 5 at least.
