6. Blowing On Cartridges - Nintendo

I’m sorry but I’m pulling no punches on this one. The fact that anybody thought blowing air and spit into a game cartridge would make it work is unbelievable. I totally did it too. I actually wasn’t 100% sure this was a myth until I was researching for this video.

If you haven’t heard it or perhaps you’re a little young for this one then there was a widespread myth to the level a lot of people thought it was a fact that if you blew into your Nintendo cartridge it would fix it. Any trouble booting an NES, SNES, or N64 game could apparently be fixed by this method of taking it out, blowing on it, then putting it back in. Despite Nintendo literally telling us not to, we still blew on N64 carts well after the theory that it would actually fix things was debunked. Turns out it was really just turning it on and off again that was letting us believe our gross spit air was helping things.

I mean, we also all licked Switch cartridges when those came out so, it’s possible the human race just can’t be saved.
