5. Super Mario Party

Nintendo

While the Mario Party franchise has never exactly been a surging critical darling, most reviews seemed to agree that Super Mario Party is the best entry into the series since the N64 glory days.

And while it certainly is a moderately enjoyable party game if played on a boozy Saturday night with friends, the novelty quickly wears off due to the fairly lacklustre, overly simplistic array of mini-games on offer.

In addition, there aren't enough boards to choose from and the ones available are disappointingly small.

The most crushing let-down, however, is the online multiplayer mode, which is limited to just a few scant, rotating mini-games without any option to play a traditional board game.

Look, Nintendo - we're all busy people, and it's not always easy to get even four friends together in a single physical space. Full-fat online play shouldn't be something fans have to beg for in 2018, and its exclusion only makes you look even more out-of-touch than usual.
