At first glance, ReCore looks awfully familiar, particularly to anyone who's played Half-life 2 (i.e. everyone) and remembers Gordon's much-loved companion, Dog (again, everyone). But let's not get fixated on its inspirations, because ReCore gives us plenty of its own reasons for us to get hyped about it. Developed by Comcept (headed by former Mega Man designer Keiji Inafune) and Armature Studios (Metroid Prime 3), ReCore is an action-adventure game following the last human on earth - a young woman who traverses a futuristic sandy wasteland accompanied by various robo-companions. These mechanised buddies are powered by a mysterious blue orb, though it's unknown for now if you'll actually get to control them or just order them around to do your heavy lifting for you. The gameplay focus of ReCore also remains a mystery, though a big bit of me hopes that there'll be plenty of opportunities to switch between multiple robots to complete challenging puzzles (anyone remember Space Station Silicon Valley?). There are plenty of unknowns still surrounding ReCore, but it's these combined with the game's intriguing premise and beautiful presentation that leaves us itching to find out more.
