No style, no mid-fight quips, no martial arts. Just a brutal traded punch-fest slobberknocker, with both Solid Snake and Liquid Ocelot getting staggered, willing themselves to carry on, and returning the hit.

The whole bout is framed by the lifebars and music from each Metal Gear game, showing just how far the pair's antics have come, since first meeting on Shadow Moses island.

At one point they even fall forehead-to-forehead, seeing two revitalising syringes the pair were keeping fall to either side. They each pick one up... and inject one another, because they both need this long-awaited fight, at the top of a war ship, with every other character awaiting the result for the fate of the world.

At the close, Snake eventually gets the final shot, downing a blood-coughing Ocelot who makes finger guns and then proclaims Snake is "pretty good".

That itself was a callback to MGS 3, but wrapping up so many hours of story with such a weighty series of animations felt incredible.
