Water levels are infamously annoying. From Sonic's frustrating underwater elements and Mario 64's bland and dull underwater segments, water levels could fill this list and then some. But Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES takes the biscuit. Being an already difficult game, the water level takes that to new heights.

Being the barrier that many players reached and gave up on, the Dam Level is one of gaming's most frustrating. The turtles are ironically terrible swimmers with the controls not lending themselves particularly well to the stage. On top of that, you are engulfed in electric seaweed that is guaranteed to make you want to punch a hole through the TV.

And then there is everyone's favourite mechanic - time limits! You have to defuse a number of bombs whilst dealing with the aforementioned hazards, all whilst under an excessively tight time constraint. Difficult and bone-breakingly frustrating, this dam/damn level was entirely deserving of a spot here.
