10 Obvious Video Game Remakes The Industry Is Ignoring

4. Gunstar Heroes

Contra may have popularised run-and-gun shooters, but Gunstar Heroes took things to a whole new level. With its frantic action, relentless enemies, and screen-filling bosses, this Genesis title was lightyears ahead of other 2D platformers.

Because it sold well, received universal acclaim, and kicked off Treasure's career as a gaming developer, it looked like Gunstar Heroes was destined for success.

Bizarrely, Treasure never really revisited the game (which is ironic, because it's still regarded as the company's best work). Apart from a forgotten sequel on the GBA and a straight 3DS port, nothing else has been done with this IP.

Even though some great games haven't aged well and should be left in the past, Gunstar Heroes isn't one of them. Not only should Gunstar Heroes make a comeback, it deserves a thorough remake. Although the core mechanics should remain, it would be awesome to replay the old game with modern graphics, new bosses, and more weapons.

Many platformers from this era like Ducktales, Battletoads, and Rocket Knight have recieved remasters over the last decade, so why not give Gunstar a shot? Considering games like Cuphead have revitalised the run-and-gun genre, it's all the more reason why this needs to become a reality.
