Blasphemy, right? Well, maybe not...

Video game remakes might divide opinion more Marmite. Some people love the opportunity to revisit classic games with new features and gorgeous new graphics whilst others would rather developers simply worked on new projects and adventures, instead revisiting the past. As high-definition collections grow ever popular, it's hard not to feel a little disappointed with them. Take the Devil May Cry HD Collection as an example: A great trilogy of games, sure, but there's little extra incentive to buy the bundle if you own the originals on PlayStation 2, unless the change in resolution means that much to you. If you missed out the first time, a HD Collection on current-gen platforms can be a simple, cost effective way to catch up but the early adopters may demand more. Sometimes a simple remake isn't enough; some series' may have taken a turn for the worse and need a reboot to get back on track. This can lead to exciting new adventures and the opportunity to introduce classic characters to a whole new audience whilst updating the franchise so stale elements can be replaced and refreshed. Luckily, some developers are willing to take the time to revisit their classic games and rework them to match modern standards. Perhaps they add extra content to invite the old fans back in or they give the whole game a new glossy makeover, attracting new converts who were put off before. These ten games go the extra distance to please everybody and in doing so, set the benchmark for how a video game remake or reboot should be done.
