10 Pokémon Who Deserve Mega Evolutions

These ‘mons have more than paid their dues by now.

Mega Evolutions are possibly one of the most popular changes to the evolution meta Pokémon has ever introduced. Unfortunately, Sun & Moon didn’t provide us with any new ones, but there’s still every chance that they could be back in Sword & Shield.

The biggest thing in their favour is Let’s Go. Not only were Mega Stones in the game, they played a part in the story, with Professor Oak giving you the stones for Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise upon completion of the seventh gym.

Not only that, but Red, Blue, Green, Lance and Trace all have Megas, making them a part of regular gameplay too. All of this combines to suggest that Game Freak want Megas not only to be part of the franchise going forward, but that they want returning players to be aware of them too.

Hopefully this groundwork will be built upon with Generation VIII.

If that’s the case, there’s a lot of Pokémon which deserve to join the fray. Either because they’ve been forgotten, they could do with a stat boost or because they’re currently being overshadowed, these ‘mons would be more than deserving recipients.

10. Aegislash

Considering the game is literally going to be called Sword & Shield, surely the Sword & Shield Pokémon itself will get a look in. Then again, Sun & Moon had no place for Solrock or Lunatone, so there’s no guarantees.

Even away from the names, there’s plenty of reasons for Aegislash to get a boost here. Steel and Ghost is a brilliant combination, and the idea of it serving as a spectre for the kings and queens of old is a much more whimsical and fantastical backstory than most Pokémon get.

Ignoring the name, it certainly fits the medieval theme regardless. It could grow to become a more modern weapon, sprout extra daggers or just gain a bit more personality. The more ghostly inanimate object Pokémon like Chandelure or cutesy ones like Vanillite have a sense of humanity to them, but Aegislash is just... there.

Those Pokémon aren’t universally popular, but they do at least commit to the bit much more than Aegislash does.

It needs that little bit extra to really carve its way into Pokémon folklore and not just be another also ran; it certainly has a backstory which deserves it.
