10 Promising Video Game Sequels Stuck In Development Hell

10. Halo Infinite

Starting off the list is Halo Infinite; the game Microsoft is banking big on to move units of the newly released Xbox Series X. It's been in the pipeline for five years now and has some big expectations to meet.

Infinite's troubles began with the 2015 release of Halo 5: Guardians; fans were deeply critical of both its weak campaign, story and the inclusion of REQ system microtransactions. The game's disappointment's caused 343 Industries to suffer a major downturn in their reputation.

Since then, the developer has gone back to the drawing board, trying to figure out a way to make up for Guardians while maintaining their own vision for the franchise. When Halo Infinite was announced, it adopted the franchise's traditional art style and has now seemingly thrown out many of the story threads of the franchise's fifth entry.

It's not as stagnant as other films on this list, but Halo Infinite's development has proven rather troublesome, particularly in recent years. The game has now gone through two directors leaving the project; first it was Tim Longo and now Chris Lee. This doesn't bode well for the final release, which has been pushed back several times over, leaving the Xbox Series X without a killer app on launch day.
