10. The Painted Cow Offering - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim is home to an abundance of strange and out of left-field encounters. It could take up ten whole spots on this list with the sheer amount of content it has to offer.

Let's take a closer look at just two on this list, starting with "The Painted Cow".

This event has no known way to get triggered, so you'll need some blind luck on your side. You'll know that you are witnessing the encounter when you see a farmer leading said painted cow towards a giant's camp. When spoken to, the farmer will say he is offering the cow to the giants in order to protect the rest of his livestock.

This encounter has multiple endings, unlike other NPC encounters in the game. Most have a fixed narrative that won't change, but here, in one of the two endings we see the giants reject the cow and kill the farmer, the cow escaping.

The other has the giants accepting the cow and allowing the farmer to leave peacefully. The cow won't be eaten and instead goes on to live with the giants in perfect happiness - or until you stop monitoring the situation, anyway.
