Pokémon is an interesting success story for another reason that could end up affecting its long-term life. Pokémon Red and Blue are going to be for the Game Boy, as is Pokémon Yellow. In the eight years of the Game Boy being released, has there been a long-standing franchise that is exclusive to the console? No. All of the top titles such as Super Mario Land, Metroid II and Zelda: Link's Awakening have all been home console titles that have gotten hand-held treatment. Yes, there have been successful, original Game Boy IP but none of them have made a long-running series out of them. Pokémon is looking to do this and it may be successful, but considering the power of the Nintendo 64, can't the series use the superior technology to work through some of the other problems on this list and become the newest home-console hit for Nintendo? Mario already made the jump to 3D with roaring success and Ocarina of Time looks to be a smash hit on release. Why not ditch the Game Boy and establish itself as a 3D property? Alas, with the sequels in the works still for the Game Boy, we've had no word of a home-console adventure.
