First announced back at E3 2016, Rare's Sea Of Thieves was set to be a game where players could fulfil all of their pirate fantasies within a vibrant, shared open world embedded with the veteran development team's signature tongue-in-cheek humour.

Launching in March 2018, Rare's pirating adventure earned plenty of praise for its visually impressive open world and co-operative ship combat. However, the game nevertheless received just as much criticism for its relentless grind and a disappointing lack of content. After all, there is only so long you can chase chickens before the gameplay loop becomes monotonous.

Over the last two years since the game released, however, the dedicated team over at Rare have consistently been adding to and improving their game. Not only have they added treasure troves of content to ensure that crews always have something to do, the introduction of various other game mechanics and systems have transformed the game into a completely different experience from when it first set sail.

If you were one of the budding pirates who was put off or grew tired of the game’s barren seas, now is the perfect time to dust off your cutlass and jump back in for another adventure.

10. Tall Tales Offer A Fun Narrative Experience

Despite offering a vast open-world sandbox to explore, one of the biggest issues with Sea Of Thieves at launch was that there just wasn’t that much to do outside of completing the same rinse and repeat voyages from the same three companies. Consequently, the game was likened to more of a chat room or empty playground than the high-octane pirating adventure it promised to be.

Thankfully, though, players wouldn’t need to wait too long for their wishes to come true thanks to the introduction of Tall Tales. A collection of sizeable, narrative-driven quests that flesh-out the world in a variety of interesting ways, this collection of currently 11 tales will have you and your crew searching for a means to enter the fabled Shores Of Gold, battling and learning about fallen pirate lords as you go, as well as encountering the ruthless Captain Flameheart in another ongoing storyline.

Although the riddles in these quests can offer a head-scratching challenge for you and your crew, some of them can be occasionally obtuse. However, you can always use a guide to make things a lot easier – it would be the pirate thing to, after all.
