5. Weapon Durability - The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the greatest games of the current generation - and if ever, honestly - but this is absolutely in spite of one majorly frustrating and divisive mechanic.

While weapon durability isn't an inherently bad idea, it's employed horribly throughout Breath of the Wild, given the tendency for weapons to break after an indecently short time, requiring players to swap to a new one far too frequently.

Now, players who do even a merely cursory amount of exploration should find themselves stocked with plentiful weaponry, but the lack of clear information about your weapon's durability pre-break is frustrating, unaided by the game's relatively high degree of challenge.

It's clear that Nintendo was hoping that players would find creative environmental combat solutions rather than simply whipping another sword out, but ultimately it's a mechanic that's more tedious than it is well thought-out.
