10 Star Trek Games Paramount Should Develop
2. Dominion War: Frontlines
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine meticulously chronicled one of the largest wars in Federation history. But even in the show, we were often told about the battles being waged rather than shown them. The glimpses we did get made for a compelling war story. So let us fight in it.
This one really is as straightforward as it sounds. A first-person shooter in the style of Call of Duty or Battlefield, set on the frontlines of the Dominion War. Ground combat that utilises fully customisable loadouts with armour sets, phaser rifles and photon grenades. Huge maps that take the fight to multiple worlds across every side of the conflict. And gripping missions and objectives that tie into the greater war effort.
If they did want to make things a little more complex, there's plenty of Star Trek lore to play with. Different classes could be introduced based on Starfleet departmental training: tactical, engineering, operations, and even medical. The abilities and special items you unlock would then depend on your character's training. And if they were feeling particularly ambitious, they could introduce a faction system, allowing players to pick between Federation, Klingon and Cardassian campaigns.
Whatever details they decided on, the idea of getting our boots on the ground and fighting our way through the Dominion War is as irresistible now as it was when Deep Space Nine first brought the conflict to our screens. It really does feel like this game is long overdue.
