The Last Of Us is, quite rightly, hailed as a modern masterpiece of gaming, with one of the most involving and engaging stories and two of the best characters ever written into a game. It's a bonafide classic that will be lauded for years to come. However, everyone looks at the game through rose tinted glasses. Sure, Joel and Ellie's story is a beautiful one, from unwilling associates to an adoptive father and daughter, the story is seminal, but people forget that it also happens to feature one of the scariest enemies in gaming; the dreaded Clickers. Clickers are an advanced form of enemy in the game, whereas your average enemy is a normal person infected with a fungus that drives them mad, Clickers are the result of years of infection, the fungus has grown out of their skull and covered most of their face, rendering them blind. They move around the world with echo-location, resulting in their distinctive clicking sounds and happen to have hyper-sensitive hearing as a result.Just like in Alien: Isoaltion, these guys can you hear you from a mile off and if they do hear you they'll sprint at full pelt to where you made the noise and if you're still there, kill you in one hit. Their signature clicks cause you to stop still and assess the situation because knowing there is a clicker about but not precisely where it is can mean a messy death. The sound they make when they hear you will reverberate in your head long after you've remembered that you should be breathing.
