When Gearbox began developing the first sequel to Borderlands, there was one aspect of gameplay that had not only to match the first title, but it also had to be so much more. The first game boasted a ridiculous number of weapons players could find in the game, but Borderlands 2 managed to one-up its predecessor.

But, actually, it did a lot more than that. Borderlands 2 was described as having 87 bazillion guns. Unfortunately, that's not a real number, but that doesn't mean the various weapons configurations spread throughout the game don't reach to levels that would make most gamers' jaws drop.

According to Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford, the game actually has 17,750,000 different weapons players can find, buy, or tear out of the cold, dead hands of whatever psycho they just fragged. That's a ridiculously large number, and there's no way a single player could ever find them all.

Of course, that doesn't matter because the diversity of weaponry in the game is all about creating a unique playing experience for each and every gamer. Gearbox upped the budget for development solely to introduce a crazy amount of weapons into the game, and in the end, Borderlands 2 boasts twice as many weapons as its predecessor.
