The toast of E3 last year was Titanfall, the mech-based online-only shooter from Respawn Entertainment, a new developer comprised of guys who used to work on the Call of Duty franchise, and have clearly thrown the gauntlet down to the blockbuster series. A beta allowed players to test the game out for themselves last month, and despite most players struggling to actually find a stable game, the results were pretty glorious under ideal conditions. Titanfall doesn't reinvent the wheel as the hype might have you believe, but it's a ridiculously addictive, hugely enjoyable shooter that's sure to be a massive success. Controlling the mechs gives players a real sense of power and weight, while as a mere grunt, players are able to free-run along the sides of buildings and pull off death-defying stunts, which helps distance the game further from being just Call of Duty with mechs (even though that's not such a bad thing). If there's any online game we're likely to be hooked on this year, it's probably going to be Titanfall.
