10. Dante's Inferno

The Story: Re-creating the famous ‘Inferno’ story from The Divine Comedy, the game follows Dante, re-imagined as a templar knight, as he fights his way through the nine circles of hell on a mission to rescue his lover’s soul from Lucifer.

Why It Could Be Amazing: You did just read what the game’s plot was, right? It takes an incredibly famous work and gives it a bonkers turn, splicing in all sorts of grotesque monsters and graphic horrors to fight. The material is super interesting and the subject matter is uniquely out-there.

On top of the story, Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez has been brought on to direct the film. He’s still fairly unproven, but Evil Dead was well-received and it was a very similar movie to what this could be: a grotesque walk through Hell itself.

It’s likely that with Alvarez at the helm, the horror imagery will work out, so this adaptation will probably live or die on the strength of its characters, and the emotional journey that Dante goes through amidst all of this killing. And if that’s all it takes to succeed, there’s a definite chance for Dante’s Inferno to work.
