1. Fortification - Mass Effect 2 & 3

On paper, Mass Effect's Fortification power may sound pretty badass - it not only reinforces your armour, but charges your gauntlets for increased melee damage. Nice.

But there are drawbacks. For starters, unlike near-identical abilities Barrier and Geth Shield Boost, it is a combat skill and therefore doesn't benefit from the enhancements of tech or biotic upgrades as the other two do.

Furthermore, in Mass Effect 3 Fortification has a cooldown absurd enough for many players to swear it off entirely. In short, when you've got two superior abilities to choose from, why on Earth would you ever waste resources on this one?
