If there's one thing we all share in common, it's that we're all going to die some day.

Quite a bummer, isn't it? Well, if it's any consolation, although we may not escape the inevitable, at least our fictional characters like Gandalf or Palpatine have a chance to come back from the dead as if nothing happened.

In fact, there are plenty of video game characters who cheated death, too!

Although death is meant to be the final destination, there are plenty of video game characters who managed to say no to the Grim Reaper and come back in the sequel.

Yes, through sheer luck, miracles, and plenty of hamfisted retcons, some characters get to enjoy a second chance at life as they make an unexpected return.

Some of these characters may bother to explain how they managed to survive, but this is not always the case. What's important is that even if you've already said your goodbyes, their sudden resurrection in the sequel will make you feel stupid for giving a eulogy.

The following characters might have died a pretty brutal death, but you shouldn't waste tears mourning them. They'll just come back in the sequel anyway.

10. Scarecrow - Batman Arkham Series

There are two versions of Scarecrow that people remember when they think about the Batman Arkham series. One is the mastermind villain who orchestrates Batman’s downfall in Arkham Knight. The other is the pathetic loser who’s eaten by Killer Croc a few minutes after his grand reveal.

Yes, despite the fact Scarecrow plays one of the most crucial roles in the final installment of the Batman Arkham series, the truth is that for the majority of the series’ lifespan, he was presumed to be dead after the events of the first game.

In Arkham Asylum, Scarecrow is suddenly eaten by Killer Croc shortly after he fails to terrorize Batman, and ever since that moment, the series fans have believed him to be permanently dead.

In reality, the games’ writers were secretly planning on his return, making him miraculously survive his one-sided encounter with a giant crocodile man and then secretly plan his revenge on the Dark Knight for almost turning him into gator chow.

You can actually see hints of Scarecrow’s survival in the games preceding Arkham Knight, like a secret easter egg message from him in Arkham City, proving that his return was more than a last-minute decision on the developers’ end.
