10 Video Game Choices That Seem Important (But Are Actually POINTLESS)
10. Save Doug Or Carley - The Walking Dead
Over the years, Telltale games have been notoriously criticized for invalidating most if not all of the player's choices, despite most of their gameplay consisting of making decisions.
The original Walking Dead game suffers from this in many different instances, most noticably when the player has to pick between saving Carley or Doug.
During the episode inside the drugstore, Lee has to make a seemingly crucial choice between saving Carley or Doug. Depending on who you pick, the other character will die shortly after, which is why you might think your decision can drastically impact the story, seeing as you've basically switched one character's life for another.
However, although both Doug and Carley have unique interactions with Lee in the following episode, it doesn't take long for them to be killed off anyway, making your sacrifice of their counterpart seem completely pointless.
The lack of impact your choice leaves feels even more apparent when you realize Carley and Doug are pretty much never mentioned again after both of them are dead, and even then, everyone speaks of them as if they were completely interchangeable.
Thanks for making us care for nothing, Telltale!
