10 Video Game Companions Everyone Hated At First (But Ended Up Loving)
10. Minthara - Baldur's Gate 3
Most new Baldur's Gate 3 players think Astarion or Shadowheart are the best companions in the game.
Meanwhile, the veteran players know that the best character is actually Minthara, aka the main villain of Act 1.
Minthara is one of the generals of the Cult of the Absolute seeking to destroy the druid's grove.
You need to kill her in order to save the grove's residents, and yet, some people are willing to let her slaughter the tieflings and the druids just so she can be their companion.
This is because even though the narrative of Act 1 paints her as a hateful villain, if you recruit her into your party, she easily has the strongest and most entertaining personality.
As a drow paladin, Minthara possesses an incredibly pragmatic mindset, which, mixed with her sharp tongue and her people's love of murderous intrigues, makes for a rather potent combination of charm and wit that no other companion can match.
The best part is that you don't even have to destroy the grove to recruit her. If you knock her out instead of killing her, she becomes recruitable in Act 2, so you can experience the best character without going full evil for her.
Even if she's worth it.
