10 Video Game Difficulty Modes You Must Complete Without Dying Once

2. The Witcher 2: Assassin's of Kings - Insane Difficulty Mode

The Witcher as a franchise may be one of the most popular fantasy IPs today, but previously it was a more niche project confined to Poland. When the property was picked up by CD Projekt Red in the mid-2000s, it slowly began to make a name for itself.

2011's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was an ambitious game with some legitimate grievances. For starters, there was no tutorial upon the game's launch, forcing players to put themselves through a trial by fire in the game's prologue.

On top of this, some serious criticism was levelled at the game's combat system; specifically, Geralt would often target the wrong foe in sword swings and constantly expose his back for double damage from the enemy. This made the game's difficulty feel distinctively cheap and in the early stages of the game, combat was a brutal struggle.

That just made it all the tougher when you go through on Insane difficulty. This deletes your save file when you die, with the game over screen proclaiming: "Geralt is dead" as your game comes to a crushing close. Considering how long Assassins of Kings is with multiple bosses, locations and quests to accomplish, you really don't want all that progress to disappear.
