10 Video Game Items Everyone Hoards (But Never Uses)
Yes, you're definitely going to use that healing potion at some point!
Hoarding. It's a problem every person has faced at least once in their gaming life.
When games offer you too many items and not enough means of limiting the amount you can gather, it becomes only natural to cling to all of them like some sort of rabid mole.
However, a lot of the time, the items you collect for that "one special occasion" never actually leave your inventory. Every situation where they could prove worthy doesn't seem "special" enough, and so they only end up cluttering your backpack.
Perhaps it's just a bad habit; perhaps it's a result of an unhealthy obsession with efficiency. Whatever the case may be, every instance of these hoarded items kept for the darkest hour turns them into more of a nuisance than a proper backup plan.
You can never be too careful, so goes the old proverb, but these items are a definite proof of the opposite. If you're guilty of collecting and never using them, perhaps it's time to change your habits a bit and learn to let go.
10. Poison - Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a pretty accurate representation of playing tabletop Dungeons & Dragons with your friends. It’s got the dice screwing you over, the slow descent of your party into a bunch of murder hobos, and it even features the most common affliction among D&D players—the urge to needlessly hold on to items they’re never going to use.
The game features an impressive collection of consumable items that can give you an edge in combat as well as outside of it. You have bombs, magic scrolls, potions, and poisons, and while they all sound useful, in reality, one of the above-mentioned categories is pretty much never used.
Although it’s almost guaranteed that you’ll instinctively grab every vial of poison you find on your first playthrough, it’s just as likely that you will never use a single one in your entire campaign.
You might think a poisoned arrow or dagger might prove advantageous, but then every time you enter combat, you either have more powerful items at your disposal or you’ve encountered yet another group of enemies that are resistant or immune to poison. Looks like we're hanging onto all of this for a little longer... again.
