Fans of the Animal Crossing series will know that its cutesy exterior hides a competitive heart and sometimes anxiety-inducing community.

Whether they’re paying several million bells for the ‘best’ villagers or queuing for several hours to sell their turnips on somebody’s island, some Animal Crossing fans want the most impressive, elaborately-designed town they can possibly have.

Sadly, the result of this tends to be that there are a lot of very desirable items on said island, which some callous visitors just can’t resist. With the recent ocean swimming update, a loophole opened the way for a spate of thefts, as players could bypass the fences and such that traders place to protect their islands by swimming around to another beach.
