10 Video Games That Should’ve Quit While They Were Ahead

7. Metroid

Although the early Super Nintendo instalments require thick rose-coloured glasses to be fully enjoyed today, the Metroid Prime trilogy is still one of the finest examples of first-person exploration. A delightful mix of Zelda-esque adventuring, puzzling, and classic FPS combat, the three Primes are tightly knit and simple fun, all dolled up in sci-fi goodness. Monitors to scan, aliens to vanquish, servers to hack - it's all the grittiness cyberpunk lovers could ask for with Nintendo's charm at the helm. Unfortunately, that game came along. You know the one. Yes, that one. Metroid Other M reduces the otherwise bold, intelligent and respected bounty hunter Samus Aran to a hapless dependent packing all the charm of a toddler mid-tantrum. We should probably be thankful that Other M developer Team Ninja, best known for the questionably jiggly Dead or Alive series, refrained from slapping a bikini on Samus and plopping her on a beach, but the game was a disaster either way. Nintendo itself has said the Metroid IP is not dead, but you won't find a fan willing to play (read: so much as look at) another Other M.
