1. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty

In a move that would see mastermind Hideo Kojima branded a manipulative liar of Molyneux/Murray proportions, the Metal Gear plot-wizard decided to troll the entire world back in 2001.

As a result of the game's now infamous bait n' switch (that being that you weren't going to play as Solid Snake after all, but Raiden), it meant the opening Tanker sequence where Snake did come back, was the best part of the whole thing.

We had the uber-slick intro where Snake dives off the George Washington Bridge, the myriad of ways you could mess with the enemy A.I. (including distracting them with nudie mags and fly infestations), the intertwining corridor layout that made exploring and memorising the whole thing such a blast, and the big finale of Liquid Snake overtaking Revolver Ocelot's body to make off with Metal Gear Ray itself.

The rest of the game was just as mechanically tight and memorable for different reasons, but let's be honest, if MGS 2 was a full game of Snake-filled antics, it would've gone down in history as one of the greatest of all time.
