10 Video Games You Bought CONSOLES To Play
10. Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox)
Bungie's seminal first person shooter starring a super soldier taking on deadly alien forces in the future remains a powerhouse of the shooter genre. Right off the bat, the original Xbox had its first powerhouse title.
It wasn't always meant to turn out that way, however. Halo started off as a title exclusive to Apple Macintosh. Steve Jobs himself would initially announce the game, which demoed at the MacWorld Conference in 1999. However, Bungie's future would take them in a different direction.
The developer was eventually acquired by Microsoft, and Halo would be moved to their debut game console. Given how the Xbox was Microsoft's piece of hardware in the business, the company added the subtitle "Combat Evolved", feeling Halo alone wasn't suitable enough to be competitive.
As the gaming masses know, Halo: Combat Evolved was a smash hit, and arguably the greatest launch title ever bundled. Upon its release in 2001, it helped sell fifty percent of all Xbox consoles.
By making such an incredible game, Microsoft made it known right away that they were a serious competitor, and their console got off to a great start as a result.
