They wonder why the world isn't continually up in arms, badgering Valve through any means necessary to positively demand the final instalment be released, but alas it's not to be - yet, anyway.

Why all the hubbub around 'just a game' you may ask? Well, if you've been living under a rock, on the moon, in a parallel dimension with Matthew McConaughey, you might not be fully aware of just how many things Half-Life 2 completely nailed that the first game was already doing pretty damn well.

From the very notion of telling a story entirely in third-person and being one of the best written games so far to star a silent protagonist that also became one of the greatest characters in history - not to mention the perfected physics model that means everything from gunshots to thwacking enemies with Gravity Gun-blasts felt unbelievably satisfying - HL2's existence now as a budget title Valve essentially give away on every Steam sale makes it impossible to miss out on.
