Kratos is on the comeback trail, and his next adventure promises to be bigger, better and beardier that ever.

Sony raised the roof at E3 when it announced an all-new God of War for PlayStation 4, and no doubt gave a few Xbox One owners buyer’s remorse when it showcased its debut trailer amid the glitz and glamour of the Los Angeles expo.

God of War marks a fresh start for Kratos as it finds the Ghost of Sparta thrust into the world of Norse mythology. He’s also sired a son and an impressive beard since wreaking his revenge on the Greek gods during his last chronological outing.

Needless to say, expectations for the new instalment are loftier than the summit of Mount Olympus, but here are 10 reasons to be confident the next God of War will be the best of the bunch.

10. The Dream Team Is Back At The Helm

Sony’s Santa Monica studio caught Zeus’s Lightning in a bottle when they created the original God of War for PlayStation 2, and the majority of that dream team has been reassembled for the upcoming sequel.

That includes creative director Cory Barlog, the visionary designer who helmed the triumphant God of War II and played a crucial role in the development of three other entries in the acclaimed series.

The team which reinvented the hack ‘n slash genre in 2005 now has the might of the PS4 on its side and has revealed plans to take Kratos to dizzying new heights.

The new God of War will serve as a soft reboot for the series, reimagining everything from its combat system to its cinematics, and even Kratos’s temperament - you can't fault them for their ambition.
