While there is nothing concrete from either side in terms of a release date, Microsoft have been more open with their intentions.

Confirmed for a release around the holidays in 2020, this puts the pressure on Sony to get their act together and ensure they have everything ready to go to compete with Xbox.

Reading into reports at the moment suggests that Microsoft are well on course and pretty set in stone in terms of their release, while Sony seem to be stalling and reading the market for a later release.

Sony won't want to give their rivals a head start, but if worse comes to worse and Xbox does hit shelves before PS5, it could mean Sony are already playing catch-up ahead of Christmas 2020 - something they need to avoid.
