10 WEIRDEST Video Game DLCs We Can't Believe Exist

Paying for a nudity patch? Sounds like video games.

Downloadable content, or DLC, hit the gaming industry last generation and it has certainly proven it's here to stay.

Offering developers the opportunity to provide bonus story content, colourful cosmetic options or optional add-ons, sometimes these things provide hours of bonus content to a game you'd long since completed.

Over the years, we have seen many examples of DLC done right - for example, Skyrim's Dragonborn, Hearthfire and Dawnguard expansions - and many more tragic examples of DLC done wrong - The Sims 4's daylight robbery for a few pieces of furniture, for example.

As the industry keeps proving again and again, people will pay money (often ridiculous amounts of it) for the strangest things. One need only look at the possible $27,000 worth of spaceships that wealthy backers can unlock for Star Citizen and wonder if DLC has gone too far.

However, every so often, a product comes along that you just can't help but admire for the sheer weirdness of it. Perhaps it turns your favourite horror game into a circus, and you really want to hate it, but somewhere along the way, that hate turns into love.

Let's take a look at some of the most bizarre DLCs that people happily paid real money for in video games.

10. Nier Automata - 3C3C1D119440927

In Nier Automata’s DLC add-on, titled 3C3C1D119440927 (the name really rolls off the tongue), not only do you net yourself a rather ridiculously revealing outfit for your booty-ful protagonist 2B, but you unlock the costumes by fighting in coliseums featuring a pair of real-world businessmen.

Essentially, the DLC is an added arena mode to an already stellar video game, containing three different coliseums that reward you with various cosmetic upgrades - outfits inspired by the original Nier, items that change the appearance of enemy projectiles, and hair dyes for the female protagonists.

Accessed by quite literally berating the Secretary over and over again, demanding a fight with you-know-who, this DLC gives you the opportunity to fight Square Enix CEO, Yosuke Matsuda and Platinum CEO, Kenichi Sato.

Descending from the ceiling in true anime fashion, the two smartly dressed gentlemen politely introduce themselves before attacking you. They are the CEOs, the strongest beings on the planet, and they will not go down easily.

Both gentlemen possess a rather humorous selection of moves, including pelting you with thousands of their own disembodied heads, and they will tear through your defenses before you even know what's happening. Beat the bosses and you'll earn yourself the cosmetic goods.

Skimpy nightgowns do not come easily in this game, nor do they come cheap.
