10 Weirdest Video Game Levels We Can't Stop Thinking About
10. A Pleasant Day - Saints Row IV (2013)
In a series where spraying pedestrians with sewage and committing insurance fraud is just a normal part of daily life for the leader of The Third Street Saints, the Saints Row games are littered with some of the craziest things that players can do. But it’s the fourth game where players were treated to the franchise’s weirdest mission to date, and that’s A Pleasant Day.
Early in the game, after the Saints’ leader becomes the President of the United States, an invading alien force arrive on Earth and kidnap the protagonist alongside their companions. It’s at this point where the bizarre level begins, opening with the leader waking up in a ‘50s-flavoured sitcom titled Leave It To The Saints, complete with jaunty music and a laugh track.
The mission tasks players with making their way downstairs to eat some pancakes and retrieve the morning paper before venturing outside to meet the folksy locals. Everything’s incredibly wholesome to this point. It’s the opposite of what players expect from a Saints Row game, and that’s why it’s so brilliant.
Concluding with a classic Saints Row rampage, this level stands out as being one of the most creatively silly levels from the series’ most outlandish entry.
