While Fallout 76 is certainly the most high-profile AAA failure of 2018, it wouldn't be fair to call it the very worst game of the year. With that in mind, Bethesda's sloppy shambles of a multiplayer Fallout game is a wildly inept misfire across-the-board.

Despite the promising concept, Fallout 76 quickly outed itself as a lazy cash-grab with its piecemeal story, woeful lack of NPCs, sparse interactions with actual human players, boring PvP and "world events", choppy frame-rate and howlingly low-res textures.

Oh, and because it's always-online, any connectivity issues can pull you out of the game at a moment's notice, erasing significant amounts of progress in the process.

Mildly amusing if played with friends but still fundamentally rubbish, Fallout 76 is a staggering testament to publisher hubris and a legion of loyal fans who finally had enough.
