Trials Rising is a notable mixed bag.

Yes, the physics and momentum-heavy nature of play that was perfected with Trials HD still means you can spin and slam your way through environments loaded with loop-de-loops and launch ramps, but every other surrounding element drags the experience down.

It's like every developer is trying to "get some of that mass market money" - either through microtransactions and mobile-style grind-fests, or the complete slog that is open-world busywork.

Either way, Trials now comes with lootboxes (because that's clearly the one thing it was missing), and although its opening slew of tracks are harmless, quickly the new Tournaments and their unfair A.I. derail the whole thing.

You're left trying to finish in first place across multiple tracks in a set, only for the series' signature trial and error gameplay to let you down, kicking you back to the beginning to do it all over again.

And what might you get if you're successful? A new set of gloves... or a hat. It might even be brightly coloured!

Give me strength.
