9. Quiet (Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain)

The Phantom Pain did a lot of things differently to other games in the Metal Gear Solid canon, throwing players into an open world that was a lot less set-piece and boss-oriented than its predecessors. But it still had some excellent moments in a similar vein, such as the encounter with the scantily-clad sniper Quiet. The battle can take place at day or night, and is far more understated than the highly dramatic sniper battles of other MGS games. It takes place across a huge swathe of the Afghan countryside, and you must duck-and-dive your way among the rocks to either finish her off or sedate her and bring her back to the Diamond Dogs.
True to the Phantom Pain's style, you can take Quiet out in a huge number of ways. You can have a traditional long-distance sniper duel, close the distance on her and tranquilise her, or even get creative and order in a supply drop to land right on top of her head. It's a tense, unconventional battle that really captures the sandbox freedom of The Phantom Pain.
