6. Observer

Bloober Team

Cyberpunk horror game Observer was first announced last year, and while response was positive to the game's style and tone, it was still easy to be skeptical about the end product considering the rather low-key marketing as of late, and the fact it comes from Bloober Team, the devs behind last year's divisive Layers of Fear.

However, Observer is one of the year's most pleasant surprises so far, a visually gorgeous and immensely atmospheric thriller that combines the deliberate approach of a "walking simulator", with light puzzling, stealth and, most importantly, a richly compelling story.

More suspenseful than truly scary, the game is nevertheless a tight, intense sit, bolstered by incredible sound design and an entertainingly gruff vocal performance from legendary Blade Runner star Rutger Hauer.
