3. Realising It's Back - Pokémon GO

It may have taken two years of updates, reworks and goodwill messaging to make people try again, but millions of us got back on Pokémon GO this summer.

Thankfully the game is better than ever; Niantic have fixed the tracking feature, introduced a number of quests and side-quests, been very transparent as to how to unlock a greater array of rarer creatures, and even just recently patched in a friends list, gift-giving and trading.

The latter was actually in the initial trailer back in 2016, but now the game is bolstered by far more stable servers and three generations of Pokémon to hoover up.

Current player numbers sit at around 150 million every month, grouping up for raids, levelling up, battling at gyms and, well, collecting them all.
