The Prediction: VR owners will sadly be left waiting for that one, big killer app that makes the burgeoning platform an absolute must-buy for even the average consumer.

Why It Will Happen: As encouraging as it's been to see VR's slow-but-sure growth in 2017, in large part thanks to PSVR's success, the lack of Earth-shattering VR reveals at E3 suggests that the next six months aren't going to deliver that one mind-blowing VR title that captures the general public's imagination.

Yes, Skyrim and Fallout 4 VR will probably be awesome experiences, and plenty of upcoming titles will get the enthusiasts excited, but reaching beyond that is going to be extremely difficult.

Why It Might Not: It's worth remembering that a lot of the best VR games so far aren't AAA titles but in fact smaller, more "artistic" games that cleverly make use of VR tech to deliver unique gameplay experiences.

It's possible, though perhaps not probable, that a more unassuming VR title, like Elijah Wood's thriller Transference for instance, could serve up something nobody expected that gives VR its definite "Wii moment".
