This right here, could be the tipping point - the mark in EA's handling of the Star Wars IP where they took a step back, looked at the handling of Battlefront 2 and Jedi Fallen Order, then champion something like Squadrons as the way to go.

Because while Battlefront 2 was a disaster at launch, EA did let DICE turn it into one of the best Star Wars games ever made. Jedi Fallen Order had minuscule marketing and its biggest moments ruined in trailers, but this single player-only game was still a huge commercial success.

In both cases, sheer quality and consumer satisfaction trumped soulless business moves, and if we can get anything close to the genre diversity that exemplified 2000s Star Wars games, we'll be singing.

As for Squadrons itself, this is essentially the spiritual successor to the old Starfighter games. You've got two squads of pilots - five rebels versus five imperials - for the main story, VR support and multi-stage, large scale "Fleet Battles" that should be a blast.

Fingers crossed that disastrous microtransaction experiments are a thing of the past, and a bigger range of Star Wars games is coming back.
