Ms. Splosion Man is an irreverent, super self-referential 2D platformer released in 2011, in which you control an artificially-created pink person-thing trying to escape the science lab in which she was conceived. What with it being a platformer, you don't quite know what to do when you encounter the vacant-faced Bride boss, and find yourself facing here with the camera behind Ms. Splosion Man as if you were playing Punch-Out. You don't react until the Bride slaps you round the chops, then realise that the game's just gone inter-genre on you and that you are basically playing Punch-Out, and need to dodge from left to right and counter-attack her stupid plain face until she goes down for the count. After a little interlude that nods to the Punch-Out post-fight screen, the Bride's beachball breasts turn into eyes, and she rises out of the ground to reveal herself as a giant purple slug-beast. You must go through two more Punch-Out-style rounds against the creature before it stays down for good. Nothing like a bit of genre-bending to keep you on your toes...
