12 Most Overrated Video Games Of 2017

"Overrated" is admittedly something of a nebulous term when it comes to entertainment critique, as it can so often be a lazy substitute for "I hyped myself up too much" or "this game just isn't for me."

However, these 12 video games, some of the most acclaimed and talked about from the last 12 months, had their esteem unquestionably blown out of proportion throughout 2017.

Whether lauded as Game of the Year contenders or merely praised as great games, each of these titles fell short of the over-enthusiastic praise, and while the majority of them are at least good games, critics and players alike got a little carried away with their plaudits.

You'll probably disagree with at least a few entries on this list, and that's the beauty of opinions, but even if you're a strong proponent of any of these games, you might want to think long and hard about whether or not they really deserve all the hyperbole and fanboy foaming...

12. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy was a fun, well-paced adventure romp which benefited hugely from its gorgeous visuals and the chemistry between leads Chloe and Nadine.

However, it's also ultimately a sprint through the series' greatest hits and not a great deal more, with monotonous gunplay being peppered amid the far more entertaining platforming, exploration and puzzle-solving sequences.

Asav is also one of the series' lower-tier villains, and a lot of the action beats felt effectively recycled from prior entries into the franchise.

It's a fun game that's sensibly shorter than the bloated, overlong Uncharted 4, but given the praise it received, you'd think it brought something truly fresh and unique to the table. It's an enjoyable rental, a popcorn blast you'll mostly forget a week later, and that's basically it.
