8. Pyre
It's fair to say that expectations were high for Pyre coming out of the gate, considering it came from Supergiant Games, the developers behind the brilliant Bastion and Transistor.

To their credit, Pyre is a bold mix of RPG and sports game, melding whimsical adventure elements with a rugby-like battle-sports mechanic that's incredibly alluring...at least at first.
Unfortunately, after a few hours, the sheen quickly wears off and Pyre simply feels too shallow and repetitive, with limited interaction throughout the game's lush world.

It's certainly not a bad game, but given its status as one of 2017's most overlooked gems, you'd hope for something a little more involved with greater depth below its gorgeous surface.
