12 Worst Video Game Movies Of All Time
2. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
You have to be a special kind of awful to surpass Paul W.S. Anderson, but it turns out that's what Mortal Kombat: Annihilation does. In fact, Anderson's first game-to-film adaptation is transcendent compared to his other work. It's exactly the kind of glorious trash that delighted the few Drive-In cinemas that were still around in 1995. It takes what is essentially a plotless, bloody fighting game, injects it with an inane but ignorable plot and uses character names and traits.
Annihilation seems determined to undo all the goodwill of its predecessor within the first five minutes, killing a main character and retconning a far too drawn out mythology. The flaws of Anderson's Kombat can be brushed off - the bad '90s CGI even ages well when one is under the influence of nostalgia (among other things).
The bad in Annihilation cannot be forgotten or forgiven. There's no fun to be had that allows you to overlook its weaknesses.
