12 Worst Video Game Movies Of All Time

8. Alone In The Dark

It was only a matter of time before German director Uwe Boll came up. Alone in the Dark was financed through tax loopholes courtesy of Boll's fiancéé, but once rights were secured, the director unspooled reels of film with scenes Thelma Schoonmaker couldn't make narrative sense of.

Each time gamers hear news of a film adaptation, Alone in the Dark causes a PTSD-inspired seizure. That's the power of Alone in the Dark which, like the games in the franchise, follows Edward Carnby (Christian Slater), a detective of the supernatural who uncovers a potential rise of interdimensional beings (clearly, George Lucas took note). Very little of what we see unfold can be seen and, when it can, it's really hard to care.

The performances are wooden, the scares are nonexistent and the dialogue is The Room-level funny bad, were it not such a bastardization of its source material.

So poorly received upon release, game company Eden distanced itself as far as possible from the project. So much so that they scrapped the product and started from scratch. Originally, the PS3/XBOX360 release was meant to be related, with people from Atari taking shots of Slater's face, but once the film was released, they changed the game's title and the physical and facial traits of Carnby.

So a fans hated it on two levels - for being a generally terrible film and for delaying the release their beloved franchise's latest installment.
