13. Star Wars: Dark Forces

The first game on this list to star Kyle Katarn, Dark Forces was the brilliant result of smashing the Star Wars universe together with the design philosophies of the original Doom.

More than just a re-skin of a popular shooter however, the title brought its own ideas to the table rather than simply ripping off the best ideas from that other iconic FPS, imbuing the familiar gameplay with a distinctly Star Wars edge.

It was rough around the edges for sure (and ran terribly on the original Playstation), but it was the first step in establishing a gaming universe that would branch out to become one of the most beloved parts of the whole Star Wars franchise.
