It's fair to say that the last two E3 shows have been pretty middling affairs, failing to live up to the much-loved "Year of Dreams" that was 2015, with 2018's spate of conferences especially reflecting the awkward wind-down period of the current gaming generation.

It's probably reasonable not to expect 2019 to be much different, sadly, what with the show being held likely 9-ish months before both the Xbox Scarlett and PS5 are unveiled.

In a huge blow for the industry showcase, Sony has already confirmed they won't be appearing next year, and while Microsoft could take advantage of this, June is probably a few months too early to formally unveil the Scarlett.

As such, with the vast majority of the generation's remaining AAA titles already announced, it's likely to be another so-so year for the conference, before 2020 rejuvenates all the excitement with a tidal wave of next-gen hype.
