The Lie: Though Nintendo were careful not to strictly endorse Brain Training (more accurately called Brain Age in non-PAL regions) as being able to, through a series of mental challenges, give players a "better brain" (as this ridiculous ad from rival Lumosity did), by title alone, there's the suggestion that players may become smarter by playing it. The Truth: The truth is that, though these sorts of games can be great for Alzheimer's patients and certainly don't do players any harm, there's little intelligence to be gained from simply performing mental drills on a games console. It'll make you better-skilled at those specific challenges, but there's no way that this transfers into everyday life. These games don't so much "train" the brain as give it a light work-out, and nothing more.
